How to Configure Browsec VPN on Windows?
Have you ever tried to use a VPN on Windows? If yes, you know how frustrating it can be. Windows users have a lot of different needs when it comes to VPNs and don’t always have the time to learn a new set of commands for the programs they use every day. That’s why most people don’t use VPNs on their computers. But there is an easy way to use a VPN on your laptop without needing to learn a whole new set of commands. You can use the built-in Windows VPN client to connect to your favorite VPN server. In this blog post, we will discuss some of the things you need to know to easily connect to a VPN and start enjoying the security and privacy benefits of a VPN connection on your Windows computer.
Step 1: Install The Necessary Software
Before you can use a VPN on your computer, you will need to install some necessary software. Since all you need is a VPN client and nothing else, this step will take you just a few minutes. You can download the free OpenVPN client for Windows from the official website. You will also need to download the associated VPN server software from the same site. Installing these two programs will give you a ready-to-use VPN on your computer. You don’t need to do any configuration after the installation either. You can use the VPN immediately after you connect to download or stream content from services like Netflix, Hulu, and YouTube without worrying about whether or not your ISP or government is spying on you. Your VPN connection will automatically establish a secure and private connection to YouTube, Netflix, and other sites whenever you use them.
Step 2: Configure The Network Settings
Let’s say you already have the OpenVPN client installed and working on your computer. But you want to connect to a different VPN server than the one your default network interface is connected to. You can either configure your network settings manually or use the OpenVPN client’s menu to switch network configurations. But if you’re using the OpenVPN client on Windows 10, you can use a feature called Virtual Wi-Fi (Virtual WiFi) instead. When you use this feature, all of the network settings are handled for you by the OpenVPN client. So if you’re connected to the internet through a VPN, you won’t have to worry about your local network settings being modified by the VPN software. Just make sure you don’t use any VPN software on your phone while connected to virtual WiFi on your computer. Otherwise, your phone could get confused about which network to use when connecting to the internet and that could cause you some problems. Keep in mind though that once you modify your network settings, you will have to reconnect to the internet through a different route to make sure your modified settings are still in effect. That’s why it’s a good idea to make a note of the necessary changes so you don’t have to reconnect manually later on.
Step 3: Connect To The VPN Server
Now that you have OpenVPN client and server installed and configured on your computer, it’s time to connect to the VPN server you want to use. You can connect to a VPN server through either a tunnel or a transparent proxy. Tunneling is when you connect to a VPN server directly through an encrypted connection. With a transparent proxy, the connection goes through a special address that acts as a middle man and encrypts everything that is transferred. Transparent proxies are often recommended over tunnels because they don’t require you to have an openVPN client installed on your computer. Instead, all you need is a special VPN website address (URL). Just copy and paste that address into your web browser’s address bar and you’re all set to connect to the server.
Now that you’re connected to the VPN server, all your network traffic is encrypted and private. All you have to do to browse the web securely is copy and paste the URL of any website you want to visit into your browser’s address bar and hit enter.
That’s all there is to using a VPN on Windows. After you connect to the VPN server, you can start using it to secure your web traffic and gain additional security and privacy benefits from your network.
