How to Add NordVPN to Windows 10
NordVPN is one of the most popular VPN providers out there, offering simple to use software and a variety of locations to stream from.
The team at NordVPN have created a short tutorial, showing you exactly how to add their VPN to your Windows 10 PC so you can use it to access the internet securely.
This article will cover the basics of adding NordVPN to your Windows 10 device, including tutorials on both Windows 10 and Android.
Step 1: Installation of NordVPN on Your Android Device
First up, you will need to download the NordVPN app from the Google Play Store. This app will then connect you to a server location around the world, giving you access to a range of services including Netflix, Spotify, and more.
You will need to make sure you are downloading the official app, and not the OpenVPN app launched alongside the OpenServer software. This is because the OpenVPN app is not supported by NordVPN.
Once you have installed the app, you will need to open it and then click on the Connect button. A login screen will then appear, prompting you for your username and password. To protect your private data, you should use a strong password.
If you have set up a strong password, you can now click on the OK button to log in to your NordVPN account. If you don’t have a strong password yet, continue to step 2.
Step 2: Installation of NordVPN on Your Windows Device
Now that your Android device is set up and connected to your account, it’s time to install the NordVPN software on your Windows device. Again, this can be done via the Google Play Store.
You will first need to download the NordVPN app, then press and hold the download button to start the installation. It will then prompt you to connect to WiFi or to use mobile data. If you’re on a mobile data plan, connect to WiFi to ensure you have enough bandwidth to complete the installation. Once the installation is finished, you will be prompted to enter your license key. If you don’t have a license key, continue to step 3.
Step 3: Adding NordVPN to the Windows Firewall
Once you have entered your license key, you can test out the VPN connection to ensure it’s working properly. To do this, you can search for a VPN-enabled website in your Firefox browser, such as Google or Twitter. Once you have found one, press the Connect button to connect to it through NordVPN.
This will then show you a list of all the websites and services that can be accessed through the VPN connection. Once you have found one you like, you can click on it to be taken to the webpage.
It’s worth noting that the list of sites will be blank, as you haven’t yet added any websites to the firewall. To add a site, either click on the plus button in the bottom-right corner, or else search for the site in the Firewall section and add it manually.
Step 4: Configuring NordVPN
Once you have added a few websites to your firewall, it’s time to configure NordVPN. Navigate to your WiFi settings and ensure that the VPN server is enabled. Next, you can find a location for your VPN server by searching for available wireless networks.
You should then open the NordVPN app again and select Settings > Preferences. In the VPN preferences dialog, you can enter your preferred username and password and select a stronger password to use. You can change the server location to find nearby servers or to select a server located in your country to ensure you can access your services even if you use a pay walled service.
You can also set the number of simultaneous connections to allow, as well as whether to allow forward dns lookups or not. If you want to access a wide array of services, forward dns lookups is highly recommended.
Step 5: Checking Your Connection
Now that you’re done configuring NordVPN, you can check that all your devices are connected to the servers and that you have a strong encryption setting on. To do this, connect to WiFi and open the NordVPN app again. You will then see a list of all your connected devices, along with the encryption setting for each one.
Your password is also highly recommended to be stored securely and not easily guessable, as this makes it easier for others to access your account. If you’re using a pay walled service, it’s important to remember that your personal information is still subject to the terms and conditions of use.
