How to Change VPN to APN

If you’re reading this, I assume that you’re probably already using a VPN to protect your privacy while browsing the web. The great thing about most VPNs is that they’re incredibly easy to set up and use, which makes them a perfect option for those looking to browse the web privately.

If you’ve ever used a VPN before, you’ll know that there’s a lot more than one type of VPN service to choose from. In order to save you the hassle of deciding which one to use, we’ve decided to tell you exactly how to change the VPN configuration on your iPhone so that it uses Apple’s servers instead.

The Difference Between PPTP and L2TP/IPSec

VPNs that use the Point-to-Point Tunneling Protocol (PPTP) are extremely common, and if you’ve used a VPN for a while, you’ll most likely be familiar with this option. If you’re not, then here’s a brief tutorial on how to set up and use a VPN with PPTP.

One of the main advantages of using PPTP is that it’s extremely easy to configure. In the case of our tutorial below, you’ll need just three steps:

  • connect to a VPN server
  • enter the VPN credentials
  • click connect

After you’ve connected to the VPN, you’ll be brought to the main menu where you can choose which server you want to connect to (if you want a free option, use one of the VPNs recommended below). Once you’ve made this selection, the next step is to enter your username and password. Entering these details is all it takes to set up and use a VPN with PPTP. Once again, if you followed the above steps, you’ll already be set up and using a VPN with PPTP. If you’ve ever used a VPN before, you’ll find this process very easy and straightforward.

Why Use Apple’s Servers?

If you use a VPN to protect your privacy, the last thing you want to do is route all your traffic through third-party servers. That’s why whenever possible, you should always use Apple’s own servers. Why? Because even if Apple isn’t doing anything particularly special with your data, at least you know that it will be safe.

VPNs that use the L2TP/IPSec (Layer Two Tunneling Protocol) are another option. This type of VPN is commonly used to create a virtual private network between two or more devices, ensuring that all devices are protected by a common login and can benefit from shared keys. Once you’ve entered your username and password, you’ll be presented with the main menu where you can choose the security level (Low, Medium, or High) and whether or not to enable the kill-switch. The kill-switch is a feature that will automatically disconnect you from the VPN if your iPhone is ever lost or stolen. You can also enable two-factor authentication, which will add an extra layer of security to your account. Once you’ve made your selection, click connect.

Here’s where things start to get a little more complicated. Because L2TP/IPSec is a tunneled protocol, which means that all of your traffic is routed through a secure tunnel. This tunnel is created by default when you use the L2TP/IPSec protocol, but you can override this by following the steps below.

Override The Tunneled Protocol

On your iPhone, open the Settings app and click on WiFi.

Then, on the main screen, click on Network.

You’ll see a list of the available networks. The one you want to use for VPN functionality is shown in bold.

Tap on this network and you’ll be presented with the Edit Network List screen. Here, you can see all the available options for Wi-Fi Networks. On the left, you’ll see the basics such as the name and password for the network. Below that, you’ll see the security options for the network. Notice that the default mode for all the security protocols is WPA2/PSK. This is because WPA2/PSK is a common and relatively simple form of Wi-Fi encryption. You don’t need to be too concerned with the choice, as long as you understand the basics of Wi-Fi networking and security. On the right, you’ll see the list of available networks. Simply long-press on the network you want to use and select VPN from the list. You can also use the arrows at the top right to navigate the available networks.

Configure Your DNS

There’s one more thing you need to do to fully set up a VPN connection with Apple’s servers and you’ll be able to connect to any server you choose. To do this, open the Settings app, click on WIFI, and then select DNS. In the resulting screen, long-press on any DNS entry and select OpenDNS. In case you don’t use OpenDNS, then click on Addresses, which will show you a list of all the available DNS servers. Select OpenDNS from that list.

You’ll see a spinning wheel icon next to OpenDNS. This means that your phone is searching for the best server for your area.

Change The Default Password

If you use a VPN to protect your privacy, then you don’t want anyone to easily guess your login information. To make sure that your password is safe and doesn’t appear in any dictionary, you should change it. On your iPhone, open the Settings app and click on General. Then, scroll down to the bottom and click on Change Password. You’ll see a screen with your old and new passwords. Verify that the new password is strong and safe. You can also add an extra layer of security by enabling two-factor authentication. If you’ve enabled this option, then you’ll see a red button next to Change Password. When you click this button, you’ll be presented with a verification code that you must enter in order to login. Again, please take note of the security of your password, as it determines the safety of your privacy when using the internet via a VPN.

Change The Default Settings For Vpn Calls

Some people prefer to use their mobile phone as a speaker when on calls. To enable this functionality, you need to change a few settings on your iPhone. On your iPhone, open the Settings app and click on Voice. Now, from the main screen click on Call. You’ll see all the available options for calls, from Skype calls to FaceTime calls to both. If you want to use your phone as a speaker for video calls, then check the Video Calling option.

Why use Apple’s servers? VPNs are extremely easy to use and setup, which makes them a perfect option for those who want to protect their privacy while on the web. Not only that, but because most VPNs use the Apple protocol, you know that your data will be safe. Even if Apple isn’t doing anything particularly special with your data, at least you know that it will be safe.

If you’re looking for a simple and secure way to browse the web privately, then try out one of the VPNs below. They’ve all been vetted and are extremely easy to use. Plus, they use the Apple protocol, which gives you added peace of mind.
