How to Check If You’re Using Your VPN?

In this article, we’ll teach you four easy ways to check if you’re using your VPN.

1. Check The Logs

The first thing you should do whenever you setup a new VPN connection is to check the VPN’s log files. These are the files that record the activity of every person or device that uses the VPN. You can find the log files in a log folder in your \My Documents\My VPN. If you’re experiencing issues with your VPN, it’s usually a good idea to check the log files to see what’s going on.

You can do this in two ways. First, you can launch Log File Viewer from My VPN’s Config file and open the Logs folder. Then, you can click on any of the files to read the contents.

The other way is to use an FTP client (like FileZilla or WinSCP) to download the VPN’s log files to your computer. You can use the logs to track the activities of all the users on your VPN. The advantage to this method is that you can also easily search and filter the logs to find the information you’re looking for.

2. Check The IP Address

Checking the IP address of a VPN connection is very similar to checking the logs. Simply type the VPN’s IP address into your browser and see what address it shows you. Just keep in mind that some VPNs will have multiple IP addresses, while others will only have one. If you’re unsure of what address to enter, simply look at the VPN’s website or contact the company’s support team for assistance.

One big difference between checking the IP address and checking the logs is that you can only check the IP address when you’re connected to the VPN. So, if you’re not connected to the VPN when you check it, it will show you the IP address of the router it’s connected to. You can also use this method to determine if your ISP is blocking any websites or services that you’re trying to access through the VPN.

To determine if your VPN is working, you can type the VPN’s IP address (or addresses) into your browser and see what address (or addresses) show up. If you’re on the same or a different network than the one the VPN is connected to, you will see a different IP address. When you’re sure the VPN is working correctly, you can disconnect it and check your internet connection without it. This is called ‘killing’ the VPN connection and allows you to check your internet connection without interference from the VPN.

3. Check The DNS

DNS is an abbreviation for Domain Name System, which is a tool that allows you to transform easily typed domain names (like google.com) into their corresponding IP Addresses (like 1.2.3.4).

If you try to go to google.com now, you’ll see a message that the site can’t be found. This is because when you typed the domain name into your browser, it didn’t automatically lookup the IP Address behind it and give you the option to connect to it. In this case, the DNS didn’t work correctly and you’ll need to manually lookup the IP Address and connect to it yourself.

To see if your DNS is working correctly, try to go to a website that you know is on the internet and type its domain name into your browser’s search box. If the domain name goes directly to the site you’re looking for without any errors or problems, your DNS is working correctly.

One big advantage of checking the DNS is that you can use this method to easily find the IP Address of any website or service that you’re trying to access through the VPN. Simply type the DNS name into your VPN’s Config file and press enter. Then, in your browser, type the domain name (without the www.) followed by.com (to make it a domain instead of a search engine.)

If you have problems accessing certain websites or services while connected to the VPN, this is usually because your DNS isn’t working correctly or your browser is trying to access a server that the VPN is blocking. In either case, try switching to a different DNS server or trying a different browser.

When you use a VPN, your computer will often ask you to update its DNS. You can either manually update it or let your VPN handle this for you. If you’re on a public WiFI network like at a hotel, changing your DNS to one that isn’t owned by the hotel can make it easier for you to access content online that the hotel doesn’t want you to see. Changing your DNS to a public DNS server doesn’t put you at risk of being tracked online, but it is a good idea to do so whenever you’re connected to a public network from a hotel or other public places. This way, you aren’t at risk of being tracked by the hotel’s owners or by the government. You can easily change your public DNS to a Google Public DNS server (8.8.8.8) from Settings | Network.

4. Check The MAC Address

A MAC address is a unique identifier for a network interface, which allows devices to communicate with each other even if they’re on different networks. It is usually written in the form of a hexadecimal number that is 47 characters long. Every device on a network requires a MAC address, which is why it is such a common practice among tech-savvy individuals to change their MAC addresses frequently.

To change your MAC address, you will need access to a device with a wireless interface, such as a smartphone or laptop. Simply click on the Wi-Fi icon in the system tray of your Windows 10 device and choose Edit Connections. Then, click on the MAC tab to bring up the details for the device’s network interface. You can then either choose a new MAC address or copy and paste the one that’s currently listed there. To verify that the MAC address you’ve chosen is correct, click on the blue button next to it and it will show you the information about the device’s network interface.

It’s always a good idea to change your MAC address whenever you connect to a new network. This is because most companies that sell networking equipment or software keep a record of the MAC addresses of all their customers. Changing your MAC address periodically (such as once a month) can help prevent your identification from being discovered by someone who is trying to find your personal information. Plus, it’s just good practice to always change your MAC address whenever you connect to a new network. This ensures that you’re not confusing your device for someone else’s when it receives and sends information.

If you’re still having problems accessing content online while connected to a VPN, it may be a problem with your computer’s network interface or the server that the VPN is connected to. Try turning off your VPN and then turning it back on. If this doesn’t help, try restarting your device or connecting to a different server.
