How to Install ExpressVPN on Your Linksys EA9300 Router
For many of us, our daily commute to work involves some traffic. Whether it’s on the New York City Expressway or the M25, the chances are we’re stuck in traffic at least once or twice a day. It’s stressful and it’s not uncommon for road rage to surface amongst the frustrated drivers stuck in traffic.
If you’re one of these people, you’ll want a way to get some work done whilst traveling for business or leisure. For those of us who work remotely, this can mean commuting via VPN each day to keep our company’s sensitive information secure whilst we’re online. But connecting to a VPN server every day is tedious and can be quite the battery drain.
Instead of connecting to a VPN every day, why not have a server that we can connect to anytime that we want? With ExpressVPN, this is possible thanks to the VPN’s no-logging policy. This means that our actual internet activity will not be recorded, thus allowing us to freely use the internet without having to worry about our activity being monitored.
Whether you work remotely or you travel for business purposes frequently, ExpressVPN allows you to install a VPN on your laptop or desktop computer and use it whenever you want. By doing this, you’ll be able to secure your internet activity and access content that you might otherwise be restricted from using due to geographical limitations.
Step one: Purchase a Linksys EA9300 router
No, we’re not going down the rabbit hole with the wonders of the internet again. We just want to ensure that you’ve got the correct email address on file before we continue.
If you’ve not yet purchased a Linksys EA9300, now might be a good time to do so. This is because the retailer’s currently offering an amazing price deal for this specific router. Normally, you’d expect to pay at least double the price for something that is essentially the same as a Cisco or Arris router. The only difference between these other types of routers and the Linksys EA9300 is that this one has integrated Wi-Fi security, which we’ll discuss in more detail below.
Step two: Configure your router to allow VPN connections
The next step is to ensure that your router is configured to allow VPN connections. This process is fairly straightforward. You just need to log into your router’s interface and look for a section titled Network.
When you’re in this section, you’ll want to look for a subsection labeled Virtual Private Network (VPN). Once you’ve found this subsection, you’ll see a field titled Configure.
In this field, you’ll want to enter the server’s IP address (using the IPv4 format) for the area that you’re connecting to. For example, if you’re connecting from the United States to Sweden, you’d enter 104.28.31.154. If you have more than one area that you want to connect from, you’ll have to enter the VPN configuration for each of these areas. You can find more information on VPNs and how to connect to them via IP addresses in our informative article on the subject.
Step three: Install the ExpressVPN software on your computer
The final step is to install the ExpressVPN software on your computer or laptop. This process is also quite easy and straightforward. Simply search for the ExpressVPN installer in your software store and run it. It’ll download and install the necessary OpenVPN software on your computer. Once this is done, you can log in to the VPN with the username and password that you created during setup. Don’t forget to save these credentials somewhere safe as you’ll need them to connect to the VPN.
By following the three steps discussed above, you’ll be able to use the VPN anytime that you want and enjoy all of the benefits that it has to offer. What’s not to like?
