How to Properly Set Up QBittorrent with NordVPN

If you’re reading this it’s likely you’re already aware that Quanbo, also known as Quanbit, was a failed experiment in censorship and digital blacklisting by YouTube and Facebook. The goal was to create an entirely censored version of YouTube that would remove all content that doesn’t meet their ideological standards. This included videos that discuss politics, religion, and even climate change.

The initiative was called Project Revoice. You can still visit Quanbo today, but it’s more of a historical footnote than a functioning website. That is, until recently. In June of 2020 we found out that Quanbo had quietly re-emerged as a fully functioning, albeit now shadow-owned, website.

What is NordVPN?

NordVPN is one of the world’s leading VPN providers. It was originally founded in Germany in 2008 and is now based in Panama. In 2019, they were rated the #2 VPN by popular VPN review platform, Compare the Market. NordVPN is extremely popular among privacy & security enthusiasts for its reliable service and great feature set.

Setting Up Anonymously With NordVPN

NordVPN makes setting up a VPN simple enough for even newcomers to understand. To get started simply download the app from the Google Play or Apple App Store. Once you’ve done that, follow the on-screen instructions in the app to create a new account. You’ll need to provide an email address and a password.

NordVPN will then send you a confirmation email containing a login link for your new account. You can then use this login to access the service via the app or website.

Why Use NordVPN?

NordVPN is a great choice for people seeking anonymous web browsing primarily because of its reliable service and transparent privacy policies. In a world full of shady VPNs that are more interested in protecting your privacy than they are in actually keeping it, NordVPN stands out as a beacon of trust. They don’t keep any logs of their customers’ browsing history and they don’t sell or share any identifiable information about their users in the course of providing the service.

How To Properly Set Up QBittorrent With NordVPN

Now that you have NordVPN set up and logged into your account, you can move on to the next step. First, you’ll need to download the QBittorrent app from the Google Play Store or the App Store. As the name would suggest, QBittorrent is a standalone app that makes it easy to set up and use a BitTorrent client.

Once you’ve installed the app, you’ll see a welcome screen with a link to create a free account. You can choose to either register with your social media accounts or set up a new email address to be used for the entirety of your NordVPN account. You’ll then be asked to enter a password to secure your account. Make sure to write this down and keep it somewhere safe as you’ll need it to log back into your account later on.

Once you’ve successfully created your account, you can head over to the Account menu in the app and click on the link for Settings. This will bring you to the app’s settings page where you can change several aspects of how the app functions. Most importantly, you can change the name of your device to something more suitable for anonymous web browsing. If you’d like, you can also select Anonymous as the activity type for your device. You’ll then see the option to toggle USB Restricted Mode on or off. This feature makes it harder for someone to guess or monitor your device’s USB port activity. When this feature is on, USB debugging (adb) is also disabled on your device. This prevents someone from remotely triggering an install of an app containing malware, such as keyloggers or trojans.

To further secure your device against digital attackers, you can encrypt all the files stored on your device with a password. This is easily done with Touch ID & Face ID on IOS or a passphrase or a PIN for Android users. Once you’ve encrypted all the files on your device, you can move on to the next step. From the Settings page you can click on Storage to bring you to the app’s Storage settings. Here you can choose where to store files on your device. You’ll need at least 1 GB of free space. At the very least, you can choose to store downloads in the Downloads folder. On the other hand, if you’d like to store videos or other large files on your device, you can use the System option. This will store all of your files on a secure external drive. Remember, the more space you give it, the more you’ll be able to download. If you’re running low on space, you can choose to delete files to make more room. This option should be used with extreme caution as you never know when your device might run out of space, especially if you have lots of images or videos stored on it. For that matter, you can choose to store apps, games, and other files on the external drive as well.

Encrypting Files On Your Device

If you’ve ever used a BitTorrent client before, then you’ll know that once you’ve downloaded a file using the app it is automatically shared with other users. This is often a feature that BitTorrent clients use to encourage sharing and make the community aspect of the app more engaging. Since you won’t be actively participating in any way, it can just as easily turn into a platform for digital thieves. To prevent this from occurring, you need to encrypt the files on your device. There are several different ways to do this, but the easiest and most convenient method is to use the built-in security tools on your device. Most devices now come with some kind of encryption software or a security app that can be used to encrypt files. In the next section we’ll show you how to properly set up and use Disk Encryption with your Mac or Windows computer in conjunction with the QBittorrent app.

Using Disk Encryption With Your Mac Or Win PC

Encryption is all the rage when it comes to computers and mobile devices these days, but it wasn’t always that way. Back in the day, people still used floppy disks to store all their important documents and pictures. These days, security through encryption is available in many different forms – including through applications installed on mobile devices – but if you’ve ever used a Microsoft Windows or Apple Mac you probably already have the tools to encrypt your drives without the need for an additional application.

Here’s the process:

1. Launch the Microsoft Windows or Mac machine you’ll be using. If you don’t have Microsoft Windows, try the Mac. You’ll need at least 4 GB of space to install and use the free version of DiskCryptor.

2. Once you’ve launched the computer or Mac, click on the Windows icon in the start menu. This will open the Windows desktop. If you don’t see the icon, you can also find it under the Applications menu.

3. In the search bar at the top of the screen, type in Diskcryptor and press Enter. This will bring up a list of results. Click on the first result in the list to open the DiskCryptor app.

4. Click on the My Computer icon on your Windows desktop. This will open a new window showing you the contents of your hard drive. If your hard drive is encrypted, then you’ll see a bright yellow exclamation point in the upper left-hand corner of the window. The rest of the window will be a mess of blue folders.

5. Right-click on any one of the folders and select the Properties option from the menu. This will bring up the Properties dialog box. On the General tab, you’ll see the option to toggle the DiskCryptor icon on or off. Keep this turned on so that DiskCryptor can continue to monitor your computer’s activity. It should be noted that if you’ve turned on USB Restricted Mode, then this option will be grayed out as well.

6. Move to the Tools tab and click on the DiskCryptor option. This will launch the DiskCryptor Toolbox.
