How to Set Up a VPN on Softether

If you are searching for a way to securely and privately access the web, you have probably come across the term VPN. Also known as Virtual Private Network, a VPN (Virtual Private Network) is a network of computers that allows users to connect to a private network via a public network, in order to gain access to digital content and servers that they would not normally be able to access from where they are currently situated. VPNs can be a great solution to this dilemma, as they allow users to securely connect to a private network via a public network, such as the internet. Setting up a VPN is very easy, and although it might seem like a daunting task, it is a task that can be easily accomplished by anyone who is determined to do so. In this guide, we will discuss some of the basics of how to set up a VPN on the Softether network adapter, as well as give you some helpful tips on how to use it once you have done so. Let’s get started.

What is a VPN and Why Should You Have One?

A VPN is a type of network security software that allows you to securely access resources on the internet that you might not normally be able to access, if you weren’t connected to a VPN server. The best VPNs will allow you to connect to a server located anywhere in the world, as far as your internet connection will allow you to go. This means that no matter where you are, or what location your VPN server happens to be in, when you connect to it, you will have internet access. Many VPNs also offer their users with a choice of servers, so that even if one of their servers happens to be overloaded at the moment, or if you are unable to access it for some reason, you can always choose to connect to another one. This is especially beneficial if you are in a foreign country, where the government or hotel staff might try to block you from accessing certain sites due to your country of origin. By connecting to another server, you ensure that you will be able to access those sites no matter what. If you are in such a country, it might also be advisable to connect to a VPN that is based overseas, so that even if the server is located in the country where you are, at the very least, your communications with the server will remain private.

How to Set Up Your VPN On the Softether Network Adapter

Setting up a VPN on the Softether network adapter is very easy to do. In fact, it couldn’t be any simpler. Once you have your Softether network adapter in your hands, open up your computer and enter the following commands (press the Enter key after each one):

  • ipconfig /renew
  • ipconfig /release
  • route add default gw 10.0.0.1
  • route add -p 0.0.0.0
  • route add -p 0.0.0.0
  • route add -p 0.0.0.0
  • echo add dns YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS | sudo /etc/init.d/dnsmasq restart

After you enter those commands, your computer will reboot, and when it does, you will see a screen similar to the one shown below. Congratulations! You now have a VPN connection up and running on your computer (assuming, of course, that all went well).

Using Your VPN

Once your VPN is set up, you can use it to access the resources on the internet that you might not otherwise be able to reach. To see how to use your VPN, enter the following command in your terminal (press the Enter key after each one):

  • openvpn –genkey –lesson 1
  • openvpn –genkey –lesson 2
  • openvpn –genkey –lesson 3

This will ask you to enter some basic information about yourself (we won’t bore you with that). After you do, you will see some helpful information about your VPN. You can follow the on-screen instructions to connect to your VPN server. When you are finally connected to your VPN server, you will see a screen similar to the one below.
