How to Turn Off VPN on Your Chromebook
You bought a Chromebook, and it’s the perfect tool for your needs. Unfortunately, there are a few things you’ll need to learn before using it completely. The first thing you’ll want to do is turn off VPN. Keep reading for how to do that.
What Is VPN?
First, let’s talk about VPN. VPN stands for virtual private network, a software that allows you to create a private network over the internet. This software allows you to set up connections with other computers or devices so that you can share information securely. You can use this software on any device that has an internet connection, including smartphones, tablets, and laptops.
VPN is incredibly useful when you’re on the move and don’t want your personal data to be captured by third parties. When you’re using a public internet connection, such as at a coffee shop or airport, you can often find free Wi-Fi, which makes a VPN unnecessary. However, when you’re connected to a private network at home or work, you should consider using a VPN to protect your personal data. Especially if you’re going to be using the device overseas, where privacy laws may be less restrictive.
How To Turn Off VPN On Your Chromebook
Now that you know what VPN is and why you should use it, let’s get down to business. You’ll need to head over to your Chromebook’s settings and then click on the gear icon in the upper right-hand corner. From here, you can access a wide range of options, so you might want to make sure you’re looking in the right place before doing anything. Otherwise, you might end up installing a virus or adware to your device. You don’t want that, so make sure you’re in the right place first.
Once you’re in the right place, you should see a list of your various connections. If you don’t see VPN listed, then your device is probably already set up to use a VPN. If you do see it mentioned, then you’ll have to turn it off first.
To turn off VPN, click on the network connection and then tap the gear icon at the top right. Next, tap the drop-down menu and select “Disable” from the list. You’ll now be disconnected from the VPN network, but you’ll still be able to use the internet via some other means (usually a cellular data connection).
You can enable the VPN network connection again by following the same steps, but this time, instead of disabling it, you’ll want to choose “Enable” from the list.
