How to Use NordVPN with Fios
Since its founding in 2006, NordVPN has established itself as the gold standard when it comes to VPN services. Offering reliable and high-performance tools, dedicated customer support, and secure and private connections, NordVPN is a no-brainer for those who ask themselves these questions.
One of NordVPN’s hallmarks is its ease of use. Even the most novice user can get up and running in no time at all. In this article, we will discuss how to use NordVPN with Fios.
Choosing a VPN Client
NordVPN caters to all users, offering both premium and free products. This means that there is a suitable solution for every situation. In the case of the Fios VPN client, we will discuss the pros and cons of the standard edition vs. the pro edition.
The Fios VPN client is free, but it lacks some basic features, such as kill switches and hardware VPN accelerators. These are two essential features for a VPN client, as they allow you to easily disconnect from a WiFi network should your connection drop. Without them, you are somewhat tethered to WiFi, which can be a serious security concern.
On the other hand, the standard edition of the Fios VPN client supports all features and is completely stable and compatible with all devices. If you are looking for a VPN to use on your laptop, tablet, or smartphone, this is the one to choose. If you need a little more power, you can opt for the pro edition, which is almost identical to the standard version, but with the addition of a hardware VPN accelerator. We think this is a small price to pay for the additional power and convenience the pro edition offers.
Installing and Configuring the VPN Client
Installing the Fios VPN client is very straightforward, as you just have to download and run the installer. You will land on a screen that looks like this:
Just hit the Install button and follow the on-screen instructions. This will walk you through the process of installing and configuring the VPN client. Once it is done, you will be able to utilize the features of the app.
The first thing you need to do is log in to your NordVPN account and click the Settings button, as shown below:
From here, you can select which type of VPN connection you would like to make. You can either choose a software-based VPN connection or a hardware-based one. You will also need to decide whether you want a VPN tunnel to be established automatically when you begin using the app, or if you would like to connect manually. Once you have made these decisions, click the Save button at the bottom of the screen to continue to the next step.
Connecting to the VPN Server
Now that the VPN client is installed and configured, you can connect to the VPN server and begin using the service. To do this, open the app and click the Connect button in the top right-hand corner. This will open up a new tab in your web browser, showing you the IP address of the server you are connecting to. Your public IP address is visible to anyone who tries to connect to your computer, so you will have to hide it from the public. To do this, you can use a VPN service like NordVPN. Once you are connected to the server, you will see a window similar to the one below:
From here, you can login to the NordVPN app with your username and password, and click the Settings button to bring up the configuration screen for the VPN.
You can access the VPN settings by clicking the gear icon in the bottom right-hand corner of the screen, as shown below:
Here, you can configure the VPN setting, including the server address, username, and password. If you are using the standard edition of the Fios VPN client, these are the only settings you need to worry about. In case you are using the pro edition, you will have to worry about additional settings, such as the encryption protocol, VPN authentication method, and device compatibility. Just make sure you check off all the boxes on the left, and click the Save button at the bottom of the screen to save your changes.
Activating the VPN
Once you have connected to the VPN server and configured it, you can activate the service by clicking the Activate button found at the bottom of the VPN configuration screen. This will log you out of the app, and you will have to log back in in order to gain access to the secured features of the service.
The only thing you need to worry about is entering your username and password. If everything is configured correctly, you will see a pop-up window ask you to click the Activate button to make the VPN active. Don’t forget to click the OK button to agree to the terms and condition of using the VPN. Once you have done this, you can click the Log In button at the bottom of the window to log back in to the app.
Using the VPN
Once you have activated the VPN, you can use it to secure your Internet connection and access any website, file, or account that you might want to keep secure. To do this, open your web browser and navigate to the website or account you would like to visit. Remember, your public IP address is still visible, so if you visit a site you are not allowed to access, you will be easily identifiable. This makes you a prime target for hackers.
To keep your private data secure while using the VPN, you will need to ensure that all your Internet traffic is routed through the VPN. You can do this by opening your web browser and clicking the gear icon in the top right-hand corner. This will open up a new tab showing you the settings for your device. You will need to ensure that the VPN is set as the default route for all your Internet traffic. To do this, click the Set as default button under the VPN tab. This will prevent any kind of traffic, whether it is public or private, from being routed outside of the VPN. You can also set up the VPN on your router or computer so that all your Internet traffic is automatically routed through it. This will increase your security and privacy when using the Internet.
If you are concerned about a specific website that you think might be spying on you or your data, you can block it with a simple click of a button. The first step is to find the website in your web browser’s address bar. Once you have found it, simply click the X to the right of the URL to stop the site from loading.
If you have a business account with NordVPN, you can create up to five device or mobile connection instances, allowing you to connect securely from multiple locations. You can also set up advanced rules for the devices to allow you to automatically disconnect from specific WiFi networks or ranges of IP addresses. This makes it easier to connect to a VPN when you are on the go, as you won’t have to think about whether or not you should connect to a VPN when you are in a different location or on a different network.
