How to Use VPN to Watch Overwatch on PC

The Overwatch League starts tonight, which means it’s almost time to tune in and stream some games! If you’re looking for a new PC game to watch, consider checking out Overwatch since the launch of the game last year. Not only is it free to play, but it also offers some amazing graphics and a fun multiplayer mode that allows you to connect with friends and chat while you play.

If you’re looking to watch the Overwatch League anytime soon, you’ll need to consider using a VPN to stay hidden and secure while you stream. Since the game doesn’t support local connections, streaming it directly from your PC will result in intense internet traffic that can potentially leave your device exposed. By connecting to a VPN before you start streaming, you ensure that your personal information remains secure while you watch the matches.

Step one: Install and launch VPN

It’s important to note that not all VPNs are created equal, so before you start using a VPN to watch Overwatch, you need to consider reading their terms and conditions. Many VPNs have restrictions on what devices you can use to connect to their servers (typically phones and tablets), how much data you can use, etc.

VPNs are also more expensive than your usual internet connection, so make sure you’re aware of how much you’ll need to spend before you make a purchase decision.

If you decide that a VPN is a good idea for watching Overwatch, the first thing you should do is download the application from the VPN’s website. From there, you can connect to any of their servers around the world and access the content you want, when you want it.

The best VPNs for watching Overwatch are:

  • NordVPN;
  • IPVanish;
  • HTTPSVPN;
  • ExpressVPN;
  • Private Internet Access; and
  • Avail.me.

Step two: Configure VPN settings

Once you have installed and launched the VPN, you’ll need to configure a few settings in order to use it effectively. You can find help below:

Server address

The Server Address is the IP address of the VPN server you’ll connect to. To find the IP address of a server, open the VPN app and locate the IP address under ‘Status’ in the top left-hand corner. You can alternatively use a VPN’s website to find the IP address (sometimes it is available there as well)

For example, if you selected the United States as the country you want to connect to, and the server address was 213.186.74.82, your public IP address would be 213.186.74.82 (a unique number that is automatically assigned to you by your internet service provider).

Username

The username is the email address you’ll use to log in to the VPN on the device you’ll connect from. Your username will be your email address plus a hyphen and a password. You can find help below:

Password

The password is the secret code you’ll use to log in to the VPN on the device you’ll connect from. Your password will be your Email address plus a hyphen and a capital letter. You can find help below.

Logging in and out

It is highly recommended that you log in to your VPN only when needed. This will help prevent unnecessary traffic and keep your personal information secure while you use the service. To prevent unnecessary usage, you can turn off logging in the VPN app or disable it in the app settings. You can find help below:

Change username

If you have changed your mind about using the email address you provided and now want to use a different username, you can do that from your Account Settings in the VPN app. Just select the Change username button and then enter the new username.

Change password

Just like changing your mind about using a specific email address, you can change your mind about the password you provided and select a different password. To do so, select the Change password button in your Account Settings and then enter your new password.

You should take special care in choosing a strong password for your VPN since it will be your secret code to access your private data. You can use a password manager tool to create a complex password that is easy to remember.

Step three: Start streaming!

Once you have configured the VPN settings on the device you’ll use to connect to the internet, you can start streaming! You can use websites such as Twitter or YouTube to stream video content, or download apps such as Justin.TV, which are specifically designed for watching content as you stream.

If you have configured your VPN directly on the device you’ll use to stream, you won’t need to do anything else. Just hit the Play button and you’ll be connected to a VPN server in no time!

Alternatively, if you have a dedicated streaming device, like an Xbox One or a Fire TV, you can use an HDMI splitter to connect your device to your TV and then use the device’s internet connection to stream video content (via apps like Netflix or Hulu)

While you may not need a VPN to play Overwatch, it is highly recommended that you use one to watch it. Not only does it provide an extra layer of security for your personal information, but it will also make the game feel a little bit better (no offense, Blizzard!).
