How to Watch Amazon Prime Anywhere with NordVPN
Amazon Prime is one of the most popular online streaming services in the US and UK, offering a host of original TV shows and films, along with documentaries and kids’ programs. Launched in U.S. in January 2012, the service is now available in over 100 countries around the world.
Many people in the UK have taken to social media to voice their dissatisfaction with Sky Sports after they were forced to remove an Arsenal game from their offering due to fan protests against the host broadcaster’s coverage.
While Sky may get the plaudits for bringing live sport into people’s living rooms, its service has its flaws. For example, if you want to watch a certain program, you often need to search for it on their website and then manually add it to your watchlist. This can be an extremely time-consuming process if you want to keep up with all the content Sky has to offer.
NordVPN Review
To help people avoid these kinds of issues, we’ve examined the VPN services available for use with Amazon Prime and other online streaming platforms, looking for a one-stop-shop solution that not only provides excellent security but also allows you to use all the apps and websites you normally do. If you already have a VPN account, you can get a free 30 day trial of NordVPN and try out the service’s many features.
NordVPN Features
NordVPN is one of the more popular VPN services used today, with the ability to protect users from all the major VPN blockers, including the Chatsworth protocol which is prevalent in most Chinese networks. It also provides excellent performance with minimal data consumption.
With NordVPN, you get the regular VPN features we’ve come to expect, such as a strong commitment to privacy, a simple client interface, and the option to connect up to three devices at once. When it comes to security, NordVPN uses an advanced OpenVPN protocol with multiple redundancies and is an approved vendor by MacAfee, making it a safe and trustworthy choice for customers.
Along with the excellent security offered by NordVPN, the service also provides a no logging policy, which stands for no surveillance of its users’ browsing activity. Many VPN services keep a log of user activity which can be very invasive and invade people’s privacy. With NordVPN, you can rest assured that no sensitive information will be recorded.
NordVPN Pricing
NordVPN offers great value for money, with its one-month plan costing just $2.99/mo and its three-month plan costing just $5.99/mo. For comparison, ExpressVPN is currently offering a two-year plan that costs $6.27/mo.
Whilst these prices aren’t cheap, they are very affordable in comparison to the cost of Amazon Prime and many other similar services. NordVPN also provides a 30-day free trial, which means you can test out the service without risk. For those who want to keep up with all the latest news and sports scores, they can get a U.S. based server that acts as a quick and easy way to connect to the websites and apps they need. For those who live in Europe, they can get a German server that provides a safer and more stable experience than many other providers.
How to Get Amazon Prime With NordVPN
To get started, visit the NordVPN website, click the Get Started button and follow the on-screen instructions. Once installed, you will need to log in with your NordVPN credentials. If you already have a username and password for your VPN account, you can use those to log in.
After logging in, you will see a dashboard with your connected devices along with a map of the world showing the locations of all the servers. This is where you will need to click to set your location, as above, Germany is selected as the server location.
You can then click on the gear icon on the top right-hand corner of the dashboard to access the settings page, where you can change the username and password, as well as control the logging behavior for your VPN connection. You can disable the logging of standard network activity, such as website requests and app usage, which can help you avoid suspicion if you’re ever asked to show proof of your identity.
At the bottom of the settings page, you will see a link to view the Terms of Service and a button to accept the terms. Once you’ve accepted the terms, you will see a tab emerge to the right of the settings page with the words Connected at the top. Click that and you will be taken to a new page where you can select either the Amazon or Hulu TV show or movie you want to watch. You can then click the circle icon in the bottom left-hand corner of the page to start watching. You can’t record or download content from Amazon Prime, but you can use the various private browsing tools to keep your own activity private.
Using Private Browsing With Amazon Prime
If you want to use NordVPN along with Amazon Prime, you can set up a private browsing session when you’re logged in, which doesn’t leave a trace behind. To do this, click the gear icon on the top right-hand corner of the dashboard, then click Set Private Browsing and you’ll be taken to a page with your subscribed TV shows and movies. From here, you can select which content you want to view using private browsing and then click the Private Browsing button to start using the feature.
You can also use the private browsing option when you’re on public Wi-Fi to keep your personal data secure. To do this, click the gear icon on the top right-hand corner of the dashboard, then Set Screen Name and you’ll be presented with a list of your connected devices. From here, you can select which one you want to use for private browsing and click on the red rectangle to the left of the name to bring up the credentials box. Enter your credentials and click the OK button to confirm. Now when you open a new browser or tab, you will see that it is connected to the VPN server you selected earlier. This makes it easier to keep your personal data secure whilst browsing the Internet.
The Downsides of Using Public Wi-Fi
As we’ve established, using public Wi-Fi is dangerous when you’re trying to keep your personal data secure. This is because there’s always the chance that an eavesdropper or a malicious actor on the network could be watching or listening to your activity. Even if you use a VPN to get onto a secure network, you’re still vulnerable whilst browsing the Internet on public Wi-Fi. Whilst there are a number of reputable VPN services out there, they all have something in common: they monitor and collect the personal data of their users.
In the EU, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) came into effect in May 2018. One of the key areas of concern under the GDPR is a data subject’s right to be forgotten. This is the right for individuals to ask businesses and other organizations to remove personal data that isn’t necessary for the business to operate. Under the GDPR, organizations have a legal obligation to erase personal data when an individual asks them to do so. This is often referred to as data minimization.
With all the focus on privacy and security in the wake of the Cambridge Analytica scandal, it’s only natural that people want to know exactly what their privacy settings are on social media platforms. Whilst most providers will happily show you the information they hold on you, it’s often a case of hiding in plain sight. As we’ve established, connecting to a VPN whilst on public Wi-Fi can keep your personal data secure and also hide your identity, which means you can keep up with your social media activity without being identified by your real-world identity. If you’re interested in keeping your personal data secure whilst on public Wi-Fi, VPNs are your best bet. There are more than 300 million devices using Google’s Android operating system, which makes it the most popular mobile OS in the world. If you’re looking to purchase a new smartphone, it’s imperative you take security into consideration. Make sure the device you’re buying is supported by the VPN you intend to use and knows not to keep any records of your activity.
