How to Install Nord VPN on a Windows PC
NordVPN is one of the most popular VPN services available, with over 450 million downloads on Google Play alone. Launched in 2014, the app allows users to connect to servers in 28 locations around the world, making it very easy to use. If privacy and security are a concern and you take your mobile phone with you whenever you travel, then NordVPN could be a great option. Let’s take a closer look at how you can get the most from this app.
Install And Configure Nord VPN On Your Windows PC
There are a few steps to take to get NordVPN up and running on your PC. First, you’ll need to download and install the app from Google Play. You’ll also need to create a NordVPN account, which you can do from the app. Once you’ve done that, you can start using the app to its fullest. Let’s take a look at each step in more detail.
1. Download And Install NordVPN From Google Play
The first thing you’ll need to do is download and install NordVPN from Google Play. Open up the app and click on the Menu icon in the upper right corner of the screen. From here, you can either sign in with your Google account or create a new one if you don’t have one. Either way, you can then select either Android or iOS on the next page. From here, you’ll finally be able to download and install the app.
NordVPN requires Android 4.0 or later, so make sure your device is running at least on those versions. If you’re still on Android 3.x, then you’ll need to wait until a newer version is released. From the looks of it, the app devs are currently working on a new version of the app, which will require Android 5.0 or later. Once you’ve downloaded the app, launch it and log in with your Google account if you’ve set that up previously. You can select either Android or iOS as your operating system, then select the gear icon in the top right corner of the screen to get started the configuring process.
2. Create A NordVPN Account
The next thing you’ll need to do is create a NordVPN account. To do this, enter your email in the box on the right side of the screen, then click on the Create Account button. A verification email will be sent to you. Once you’ve received it, click on the link in the email to complete the verification process. Now, you’ll need to fill out the details on the next screen, which includes entering a password that will be used whenever you log in with this account. Make sure to choose a strong password and consider using a different one for each device you use. If you forget your password, then you’ll need to contact customer support and provide them with the email address you used to create your account.
Once you’ve created the account, you can select it under the My Account menu on the top right corner of the screen. If you don’t see it there, then click on the gear icon in the upper right corner of the screen to get to the settings panel.
3. Configure NordVPN On Your Windows PC
The next step is to configure NordVPN on your Windows PC. To do this, open the app and click on the gear icon in the upper right corner of the screen. From here, you can select either Android or iOS as your operating system, then click the wrench icon to the right of VPN protocol. Depending on which device you use, you’ll need to choose either OpenVPN or L2TP/IPSec for the VPN protocol. You can find more information on these protocols under the What is a VPN protocol section on the NordVPN website. Once you’ve made that selection, click on the OK button to continue to the next step. If you’re using an Android device, you’ll need to wait for the app to load, since the VPN settings aren’t available until the app has started.
4. Use The VPN To Its Fullest
When you’ve installed and configured NordVPN on your PC, it’s time to use it to its fullest. To start, you’ll need to exit the app and re-enter it once you’re on your desktop computer. To ensure you’re using the VPN to its fullest, you can either manually enter your VPN settings (if you’re using OpenVPN) or disable automatic reconnection (if you’re using L2TP/IPSec).
If you’ve used OpenVPN, then you’ll need to head to the Android settings of the VPN and edit the server list. You can either do this manually or use the built-in menu to connect to the VPN when you’re on your phone. If you’ve used L2TP/IPSec, then you’ll need to manually enter the username and password on your PC. Once you’ve done that, you can head back to the Android app and use the built-in menu to connect to the VPN when you’re on your phone.
The steps above will get you started using NordVPN on a Windows PC. From here, you can proceed to the rest of the documentation, which you can find online.
