So you want to install a VPN on your Firestick.
You either have a brand new Firestick or you’re upgrading an old one. Congratulations! You’re about to get extremely useful and maybe even transformative functionality from your device. Let’s get started.
Unfortunately, you can’t just download and install a VPN app from the Google Play Store. The VPN apps there are all paid. That’s great if you’re a consumer but what about enterprise users who want to get work done while traveling or accessing private networks? The Play Store doesn’t offer much in terms of VPN app choices for business users.
That’s where AirVPN comes in. They specifically cater to enterprise users. Not only do they offer free apps for both Android and iOS, but they also have dedicated enterprise product managers who work directly with customers to integrate their VPN product into their security architecture.
AirVPN is a great choice for organizations looking for a simple to use, cost-effective VPN solution. For those users, here’s a guide on how to install AirVPN on a Firestick.
Step one: Download the latest version of the AirVPN app from the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store.
To use AirVPN, you’ll need the most recent version of their apps for both Android and iOS. If you have an iPhone, you can also download the app from the Apple App Store. Since you already have the Google Play Store installed on your Firestick, let’s get to downloading the AirVPN app. To do this, visit the Google Play Store on your device and search for “AirVPN”. Look for the latest version of the app or click on the GET button to see the latest updates.
Step two: Connect your phone to the same Wi-Fi network as your Firestick.
Your phone and your Firestick should be connected to the same Wi-Fi network. If not, you won’t be able to use AirVPN. To connect your phone to the same Wi-Fi network as your Firestick, search for “WiFi” on your phone’s settings page and turn on the option to share the network.
Then, on your Firestick, open the AirVPN app and click the connection button (Figure A).
Step three: Select the country you’re connecting from.
AirVPN offers its users the ability to select a country from which they’d like to connect to the VPN. Therefore, you’ll need to do the same. To do this, click the connection button(Figure A) and then click the blue location selection button (Figure B).
You’ll see a list of countries and their regions. From here, you can choose your location.
Step four: Select a server location.
After you’ve selected the country you’d like to connect from, you’ll be presented with a list of all the available VPN server locations (Figure C). Choose one of these to connect to.
This will take you to the server selection page of AirVPN (Figure D). Here, you can choose which network protocols you’d like to use (OpenVPN, L2TP/IPSec, SSTP), whether or not to enable IPv6, as well as the identity verification method you’d like to use (username and password, Smart Card, NFC, Apple ID).
Step five: Check the overall settings.
On the left side of the AirVPN app (Figure E), you’ll see a horizontal menu. At the top, you’ll see five icons, which when tapped, will give you more options. The five icons are as follows:
- Logged In
- Terms of Service
- Version History
Use these options to check the settings you’ve made and to revert back to the default settings if you want to. In regards to the overall settings, remember that you’re installing this app on a Firestick, which has limited storage. Therefore, you’ll need to keep these settings as minimal as possible. Keeping the storage as small as possible will help keep your Firestick powered and free from errors. This will also speed up the overall startup time of your device. If you have a lot of space on your phone or tablet, you can always download the app to those devices and access the VPN from there.
Step six: Launch the app and follow the setup prompts.
When you launch the app for the first time after you installed it, you’ll see a warning page that contains two buttons (Figure F). The first button is a setup button and the second is an okay button. Tap the setup button to continue. The app will then guide you through the configuration process. During this process, you’ll be prompted to enter a VPN password and username. You must protect these credentials as they will allow you to connect to the VPN. Once you’ve entered these credentials, the VPN will be activated and you’ll be able to use it.
You now have a fully functioning, secure, and private VPN connection from anywhere in the world using your Firestick. If you encounter any difficulties, reach out to our support team directly through the app. They will be able to help you resolve any issues you might face.
