How to Update Your PALO VPN Portal Certificate
Palo Alto Networks recently released its latest offering in the VPN market, the PALO VPN Portal. The product is a sleek, modern take on the traditional VPN appliance, bringing an all-new level of convenience to the process of connecting to a remote network, whether at home or at work. In this blog post, we’ll run down the steps to get you set up with a brand-new, fully updated, and verified certificate for your PALO VPN Portal so you can get back to work quickly and securely.
The Need For Always-On VPNs
Always-on VPNs are a great example of how the mobile age has changed the game when it comes to secure connectivity. The concept behind an always-on VPN is to provide a constant virtual private network (VPN) connection, even when there’s no network connectivity. This way, you can continue to stay connected to your network, whether at home or at work. No more worrying about whether or not you’ll be able to connect to the VPN server when you need it. With an always-on VPN, you can rest assured that you’ll always have a secure connection, whenever you want one. This is a great feature to have in any situation, but it’s especially crucial for those who work remotely, or who travel for work. Being able to quickly and easily connect to a VPN when needed is the ultimate flexibility boost for anyone who uses their computers or mobile devices for work. This sort of flexibility is great for people who work remotely, as well. If you find yourself frequently traveling abroad, looking for WiFi hotspots or catching occasional network hiccups, an always-on VPN is the ultimate travel companion. Not only will it allow you to stay connected to your network while abroad, but it will also encrypt all of your Internet traffic, preventing any snooping by internet service providers (ISPs), airport security, or hackers. Furthermore, having an always-on VPN will greatly reduce the number of VPN terminations you have to worry about, as you won’t have to reconnect after every reboot. Finally, if you’re the sort of person who frequently forgets to disconnect from WiFi networks when traveling abroad, then an always-on VPN is for you. They’re great for people who work remotely or travel a lot for work, and they also make your life a little easier when abroad. You no longer have to worry about connecting to a VPN after every reboot, as your VPN will remain connected for the entire duration, guarding your identity and providing the benefits described above.
Get The Latest Version Of iOS And macOS
When you first set up your PALO VPN Portal, you’ll be asked to enter a unique 24-character identifier. This is your device’s identifier (e.g., Apple TV 4, last generation), which you’ll need to have on hand in case you ever need to restore it. The good news is that this step is a one-time thing, and you won’t have to worry about it again if you update your iOS or macOS version in the future. Updating your device’s software is as simple as logging in to your Apple ID with your iCloud account and then performing a system update. While this process can be a little time consuming, it’s still a one-time thing, and it won’t take but a few minutes. With the latest version of iOS and macOS, you’ll be able to enjoy all of the benefits of a VPN, including increased security and privacy for your data while working remotely, traveling, or anywhere else. And if you forget to update your device’s software after setting it up, then you’ll still have an obsolete version, which you can’t use to its full potential. This is why it’s crucial to ensure that your device’s software is always up-to-date, especially if you’re planning on using your device for work. Updating your device’s software won’t cause any problems, and it won’t take long. You can also perform a system update by holding the power button for 10 seconds on your Mac. This way, you’ll save time and avoid any errors. Never fear, the pros are here to help: you can connect to the best VPN services with ease using our expertly curated list of the top VPNs.
Download And Install Viscosity
One of the major selling points of the PALO VPN Portal is its streamlined installation process and its integration with Viscosity. Viscosity is a VPN application designed with simplicity in mind. Once you’ve downloaded it, installed it, and logged in with your credentials, you’ll see a landing page that looks similar to the following:
As you can see in the screenshot above, Viscosity’s main screen is designed to be simple and straightforward. After logging in and opening the application, you’ll see a list of your connected networks, along with a green dot next to the secure connection. If you click on the green dot next to the secure connection, you’ll be taken to a page that displays all of the relevant information for that connection, as seen in the following screenshot:
This is where things get a little bit complex. To the right of the title “My Networks,” click on the gear menu and then select Certificate from the list. Doing this will open up a new screen, as seen below:
From here, you can either choose to manually enter the Certificate information or you can click on the AutoFill button to have Viscosity generate and use valid certificates for your needs. In the example above, we’ve chosen to manually enter the certificate information; in the screenshot below, you’ll see that the certificate information has been automatically filled in for us:
Now that you have your Certificate information filled in, click on the Generate button to have Viscosity generate your certificate and then download it to your device. Once the download is finished, you can then install the certificate by double-clicking on it or using the “Trust” functionality in the Apple File Manager. This will place the certificate in your device’s Trusted Root Certification Authorities folder (most likely located in your ~/.trusty/ folder). You’ll know the installation was successful if you see the Certificate information on screen, as seen below:
You can click on the gear menu and then select Settings from the list to access the application’s settings page. Here, you can adjust various application settings, as seen in the following screenshot:
You can access additional settings by clicking on the gear menu and then selecting Help from the list. The good thing about Viscosity is that it’s very easy to use, and it’s also very flexible when it comes to connecting to various networks. Its main drawback is that it doesn’t feature a streamlined settings page, so you’ll have to scroll down to the bottom of the page to find the relevant connection settings. Still, for what it is, Viscosity is a great option for those who want a simple yet effective VPN application.
Pro Tip: Use A VPN On Multiple Devices
If you’re wondering how to use a VPN on multiple devices, then you’ve come to the right place. Since we already went over the need for an always-on VPN in the previous section, it should come as no surprise that you can use a VPN not only on your laptop but also on your iPhone, iPad, and Mac. Just make sure you’re using the same VPN server for all devices, as they may contain personal data that you don’t want to share. To set this up, you’ll need to enter your credentials on the various devices, and you’ll have to make sure you’re connected to the same Wi-Fi network on each. After that, it’s all good to go. Just make sure you don’t forget to disconnect from public Wi-Fi networks when you’re in a secure environment, as connecting to a VPN while abroad could cause issues with your ISP.
