Why I’m Losing Network Connection with NordVPN

I’ve been using NordVPN recently and noticed an issue that is preventing me from using the service as efficiently as possible. Every time I open the app, a VPN network connection is established and remains active even when the app isn’t open. VPN software can be a bit temperamental when it comes to connection settings, requiring users to open the app and tweak settings every time they want to use the service. This is a hassle, especially if you’re trying to use a service that requires you to be connected to the internet when you open it.

Why NordVPN?

NordVPN is a popular choice among internet users due to its simplicity of use and availability of various popular platforms and devices on which it can be used. Due to its popularity, it’s no wonder that NordVPN gets a lot of malicious traffic, requiring users to regularly change their VPN settings to keep their IP addresses anonymous. The staff at NordVPN seem to be aware of the security issues associated with their product and provide excellent support, so it’s pretty clear that they’re thinking about users’ security when they design and build their products.

NordVPN offers one of the very best tools for users to keep their personal information private, as it uses dedicated IPs for all its customers, protecting their anonymity by obscuring their IP addresses. The service also offers multiple subscriptions for those users who want to maintain separate privacy for family and friends, allowing them to easily control who can access their personal data when using a public Wi-Fi network. (Or for those who want to keep their personal data private even when using a public Wi-Fi network, which is the best scenario.)

NordVPN also provides a kill switch to prevent internet connection if the product is unplugged from power, which is great if you’re traveling and don’t want to unintentionally connect to a network you’re not familiar with.

Installing and Using NordVPN

Let’s get down to business and talk about how to install and use NordVPN. First, you’ll need to download the application from the Google Play Store or the App Store, depending on which platform you’re using. After downloading and installing the app, you’ll need to enter your email address and create a password to access the VPN features. You’ll then need to log in and establish a VPN connection if you haven’t already connected to a network while installing the app. (More on that in a moment.) Once you’ve established the VPN connection, you can configure the app to your liking by clicking the gear icon in the upper right corner of the screen.

To start using NordVPN, click the gear icon in the upper right corner of the screen to access your settings. From here, you can choose which VPN network to connect to (if you’ve established more than one connection), toggle the kill switch to automatically disconnect if the device is unplugged from power, and change the authentication method to use a more secure and private option. (More on that below.)

Pro-Tip: Establishing a VPN Connection

VPN connections can be a bit temperamental when it comes to securing them. While most VPNs require you to manually establish the connection and validate your identity, NordVPN provides what it calls an “openVPN client,” a software library that allows VPNs to be established automatically when the user opens the application. This is a convenient feature for those who want to use VPNs frequently, as it saves them the trouble of manually connecting every time they open the app.

To utilize this feature, you’ll first need to establish a VPN connection manually while using NordVPN. To do this, click the gear icon in the upper right corner of the screen, select Add VPN, and then enter the name of your VPN (such as “myvpn”), the country you’re connecting from (if you’re connecting from outside the US: “Select the country you’re connecting from”), and optionally, you can select a VPN server you wish to connect to.

After you’ve entered this information, click the Add button to add your VPN connection.

You can now exit the Add VPN screen by selecting Cancel or Logging In from the upper left corner of the screen. If you select Cancel, your VPN connection will be terminated. If you select Logging In, your VPN connection will be validated and active.

VPN Security and Authentication Issues

Unfortunately, VPN security is still a major issue, especially when it comes to accessing private and secure information while traveling. Many VPNs, including NordVPN, have security issues that expose users’ personal information to potential hackers. (For example, if you’re connecting from a country with a less-than-secure internet connection, such as China or Russia, you’re risking exposing your personal information to hacking attacks.)

NordVPN is currently experiencing a shortage of dedicated IPs, preventing users from connecting to the service and exposing their personal information to hacking attacks. While this issue is being sorted out, users are still required to change their VPN settings frequently to maintain their anonymity. (Which is a pain.)

NordVPN is a trusted source when it comes to security and anonymity, but unfortunately, this security comes at a price. If you’re concerned about your personal safety and want to keep your information private when using public Wi-Fi networks, you should look into other, safer VPN services.
